چکیده

Gravitational lensing by a spinning deflector in translational motion relative to the observer is discussed in the weak field, slow motion approximation. The effect of rotation, which generates an intrinsic gravito-magnetic field, separates from that due to radial motion. Corrections to the lens equation, deflection angle and time delay are derived.

Gravitational lensing by spinning and escaping lenses

The effect of currents of mass on bending of light rays is considered in the weak field regime. Following Fermat’s principle and the standard theory of gravitational lensing, we derive the gravitomagnetic correction to time delay function and deflection angle caused by a geometrically-thin lens. The cases of both rotating and shifting deflectors are discussed.

Statistical lensing constraints on the shape of galaxy halos

The relative frequency of four-image gravitational lens systems is an excellent tool for testing assumptions regarding the characteristic flattening of galaxy mass distributions. Using a sample of sixteen radio-loud gravitational lenses from the JVAS/CLASS survey and assuming the statistically negligible external shears predicted by the galaxy-galaxy correlation function, the hypothesis that th...

Gravitational lensing in modified Newtonian dynamics

Modified Newtonian dynamics (MOND) is an alternative theory of gravity that aims to explain large-scale dynamics without recourse to any form of dark matter. However the theory is incomplete, lacking a relativistic counterpart, and so makes no definite predictions about gravitational lensing. The most obvious form that MONDian lensing might take is that photons experience twice the deflection o...

On gravito-magnetic time delay by extended lenses

Gravitational lensing by rotating extended deflectors is discussed. Due to spin, corrections on image positions, caustics and critical curves can be significant. In order to obtain realistic quantitative estimates, the lens is modeled as a singular isothermal sphere. Gravito-magnetic time delays of ∼ 0.2 days between different images of background sources can occur.
